Hi, my name is Skye and I am a first year medical student. This summer I am going to Tanzania, as a volunteer, for 4 weeks to help and teach local children. I hope to empower these children, who are often from impoverished backgrounds, helping them to believe in themselves.
I believe that education is the most powerful tool we can give to a child, yet so many are denied access to this fundamental right.
At the end of sixth form, I began tutoring students for both GCSE and Level exams and it has been the most rewarding thing I have ever done. However, I soon realised that not everyone has the resources to be able to access such opportunities, which makes volunteering in deprived areas so important.
I will always be grateful to my parents who encouraged my brother and I to focus on our education and made several sacrifices to allow us to attend the best schools. It’s this passion for education that drives me to volunteer in underserved areas, where I hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children who deserve a brighter future.
For the duration of the 4 weeks I largely have to fund any expenses and would be grateful for any contributions. The local team have kindly allowed me to stay with them and will be providing me with all of my meals. The funds raised will go directly to:
- Supporting my host family for their generosity
- Teacher training courses to help me teach English effectively in a foreign country
- Daily transport to the local schools
- Sponsoring children and their families, allowing them to access better resources
- Providing essential school supplies, including books and stationery
Every contribution, big or small, will directly impact these children’s futures. Your support will help me bring education to those who need it most and create a lasting impact in their lives.
Thank you for helping build a brighter future!
