Ovarian Cancer Awareness Ride

On October 1st 10:30 a.m. at Inner Cycle Amesbury we will be hosting a ride to support Joanne's battle against Ovarian Cancer. In November of last year Joanne learned about her diagnosis. She dealt with months of nagging symptoms (feeling bloated, feeling full quickly, urinary frequency). While on her daily 5 mile runs she began to feel short of breath much quicker than ever before. As most would, she thought these were just signs of getting older and not being able to do as much as she once could. Then a few days after thanksgiving, she was walking and became so short of breath she nearly passed out and decided this had to be much more than "just getting older". When she went to the emergency room they discovered her entire left lung was filled with fluid and the base of her right lung as well. What came after that was the words no one is ever ready to hear, "you have stage IV Ovarian Cancer". Through this last year Joanne has dealt with a multiple lung drainage procedures, a major "debulking" surgery to remove multiple cancerous tumors, chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. Through this whole process she always kept that infectious smile on her face and selfless attitude that makes her the woman so loved and cared for by us all. As she learned, ovarian cancer is widely unrecognized until it has advanced because of the lack of awareness. This event is not only to support Joanne's courageous battle, but also to raise awareness. She wants to make a difference in someone else's life by breaking the silence on Ovarian Cancer.
