I GIVE BLACK ORG empowers communities to support Black centric nonprofits around the country in their efforts to level the playing field for underserved communities.  Historically, nonprofit organizations have been the cornerstone for addressing the needs of the underserved; however within the larger nonprofit sector, the work achieved by smaller, emerging, Black centric nonprofits is often overshadowed by large national initiatives, many of which lack diverse leadership.  Thousands of smaller nonprofits centered around impacting black lives and communities struggle to achieve sustainability because they are under-resourced and understaffed. 

I am Aaron Nicholson, Cofounder of I Give Black Org. My extensive 30+ year career as a nonprofit leader and consultant in the US and abroad has afforded me opportunities to support the growth of nonprofit entities of various sizes and missions. I recognize that Black-centric nonprofits and their leaders are often at the epicenter of providing critical community-driven services, but frequently lack access to essential fiscal, operational, and human capital resources to support sustainability. I Give Black Org represents my commitment to providing smaller, Black led nonprofits with increased leverage and opportunities for success in a sector that has not historically offered “seats at the table” to smaller agencies. I Give Black Org has been created to rewrite narratives of success for Black-centric nonprofit agencies, while also cultivating seeds of philanthropy within communities that will empower the work of these valuable organizations. 

I GIVE BLACK ORG recognizes that the Covid-19 pandemic and recession have placed millions of people in need for critical assistance and support from nonprofit agencies; however, many small Black centric nonprofits are being overshadowed by “Big Box” nonprofit players who benefit from the large majority of philanthropic giving, leaving little room for recognizing the valuable work accomplished by smaller organizations. 

I GIVE BLACK ORG is deeply rooted in pillars of GROWTH, SUPPORT, and LEADERSHIP. Our supporters are able to see the direct impact of their contributions on the sustainability and success of Black nonprofits and their mission critical, community changing programs. Through our 50/50 strategic growth strategy, nonprofits apply and are selected for $50,000 in grant awards and 50 hours of nonprofit strategic planning and consulting services. Unlike many large grant initiatives, I GIVE BLACK ORG is committed to awarding grants of unrestricted funding which provide small and emerging nonprofits with more flexibility to utilize funds for program and organizational innovation. Through planned accountability monitoring and strategic plan consulting, I GIVE BLACK ORG will support grantees in strengthening service delivery models, enhancing marketing and development plans, and bolstering leadership structures.
