My name is Emily Clarke and I am a Registered Nurse at University Hospital in Newark, NJ. I had a planned vacation to Austin, Texas scheduled for early October. After I learned about the devastation in Houston caused by Hurricane Harvey, I felt an obligation to lend a hand and I added Houston as the first destination on my trip.
From October 6-11, I will be volunteering with the Free Indeed Ministries to aid those displaced by Hurricane Harvey. A 24-hr emergency shelter at the church has provided refuge to several local families who lost everything. Free Indeed Ministries is working with FEMA to serve as a distribution center, which allocates cleaning supplies, food, toiletries, clothing, baby items, home repair tools, and medical supplies. I am hoping to raise $5,000 dollars before I venture to the Lone Star State.
I have always been passionate about helping those affected by natural disasters, poverty, disease, and the pernicious unpredictability of life. As an American citizen and a nurse, I wholeheartedly assume the responsibilities of civic participation in hopes of bettering our communities, both near and far.
So now I ask you, my friends and family, to please engage in civic responsibility with me and donate to those who need our assistance during this difficult time. Thanks to United Airlines for waiving my flight change fee and to my gracious friend and Houston native, Mindy, for letting me crash at her place, I can donate 100% of the money raised to the people, families, and organizations I encounter along this journey.
As the great philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. once said, "Every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty."
Thank you for your support and donations!
