In 2021, I was diagnosed with poorly-differentiated thyroid carcinoma. I underwent two surgeries, radioactive iodine treatment, and a week of isolation. In July of 2022, I was told that I was in a good place, but I would need to be on medication for the rest of my life.
A few weeks later, I noticed discharge in my right breast and I contacted my doctor. I underwent a round of tests and I was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer. I underwent surgery, 16 rounds of radiation treatment, and will be on hormone suppression for five years, with two more to go.
While there is no connection between the two cancers, it is scary to go through and I will need to be monitored for the rest of my life.
Needless to say, this whole experience has been stressful on me and Shayne. We have been given the opportunity to attend Camp Mak-A-Dream’s Survivor and Caregiver retreat in October of 2025. While our time at camp is paid for by donors to camp, we need funding to get to and from camp in Minnesota as well as accommodations before and after camp.
Any amount you can donate to help fund this amazing opportunity for us would be greatly appreciated. Anything above our needed amount would be donated back to Camp Mak-A-Dream to allow other survivors and families the opportunity to attend this amazing experience.
