The cover photo for this page was taken in 2019. I reached out to many of you back then to help Lincoln and me take part in a mission trip to Jamaica. Specifically, a mission trip to a small orphanage called Robin's Nest Children's Home, located in the mountains outside of Montego Bay. Otto and Roman (and Linda) are old enough, I hope, to take part this year. Lincoln is hugely bummed to not be going but his schedule just won't allow it. We are reaching out again, looking for your help in making this happen.
Our team, consisting of 16 people, will be in Jamaica from March 9th - March 16th, 2025. I don't know what they have in store for us this time around but in 2019, Lincoln and I worked with the maintenance workers to fix the road leading up to the orphanage. It had been washed out in many spots after they had torrential rains. We had to work on several miles of winding road through the mountains. We also put my carpentry skills to work and created a desk for one of the little ones who needed to be a little closer to the teacher during class as he was, shall we say, a little too excited to be in class. Speaking of class, the orphanage runs a preschool on sight and has a small elementary school just down the road. When we were done working on the road for the day, we would all get in the back of a utility truck and then pick up the kids on the way home. We would be packed in the bed of the truck, but the kids thoroughly enjoyed it.
Robin's Nest survived Covid, several hurricanes and a very impoverished community since Lincoln and I were last there. They look forward to our arrival as we bring a hardy work ethic, donated supplies, and a desire to help provide for (and cuddle) the little ones. It's our desire to share Christ's love in a practical way, as well as take time to learn from the people we meet and gain an appreciation for the cultural situation there. The people there are truly remarkable and kind. Lincoln still talks about some of the kids that made an impression on him and we want Roman and Otto to have that experience as well.
If you are able, we would greatly appreciate your financial support. Each team member needs to raise about $1450 to make this trip possible. Multiply that times four in our case. Although we have been saving some of our own money, some of the funds must come through your support as well. If you are able to give, please use this GoFundMe option. You can contact us directly as well. We can be found on Facebook (Neight Ferns or Linda Ferris). You can also Venmo me (Nathan Ferris @ Newton921). Please reach out with any questions!
Thank you for your consideration. We are excited to see how the Lord will use our team in Jamaica. We look forward to sharing about our experiences with you when we return.
