David is 19 years old and lives in Honduras. He's my friend's brother. Last Sunday, a drunk driver hit him and two other people in the street, collapsing his lung and severely fracturing his arm.
The health system in Honduras isn't like ours. There's no health insurance, and hospitals don't do anything without payment up front unless you're about to die. They initially treated the collapsed lung, but David has been waiting, in severe pain, until he can come up with the money to pay for the surgery. He works full time, but they pay so little there (less than $100/month) that he has no hope of coming up with the $6100 that he needs to pay for the surgery, 4 titanium plates, and medications and post-op imaging and care for both his arm and his lung.
Friends and family in Honduras are also trying to raise money, but with the low salaries and high unemployment it will likely take weeks, weeks that David will spend in pain, at increasing risk of complications, and unable to work, compounding his financial problems.
Please help David! They can operate on him on Monday if we can raise funds by then. Contact me directly if you'd like to donate but would rather use Zelle or Venmo. Thanks so much for helping my friend David!
(Any funds raised above the target will be held for post-op needs and then rolled over to a fund I'm in the process of creating to help with more widespread medical, educational and nutritional needs in Honduras.)
