For this holiday season, we have decided to create a blanket drive for those living in nursing facilities currently receiving dialysis treatment. Dialysis is a treatment patients undergo in order to have waste and excess fluid filtered and removed from the body due to a lack of kidney function. When patients go to a dialysis clinic for their treatment, they sit in a cold, sanitary environment for 3-5 hours up to 4 times a week depending on treatment needs. We work for a private EMS company, so we transport patients on dialysis multiple times a week. We’ve grown close to knowing quite a few of these patients personally and we have noticed a need across the board for blankets. Many of our patients only have a thin throw blanket provided by the nursing facility in which they reside, which is often not enough to keep them warm and comfortable. To address this, we are raising funds to create cozy, thick blankets by hand. Our goal is to distribute these blankets to various nursing facilities across the Cincinnati area during the holiday season, bringing them warmth and joy.

The blanket will be a 4x5 throw with an assortment of fleece patterns and colors. Each blanket will cost approximately $20 (receipt attached in images). We will be accepting donations from today through 11/10. We will be delivering these blankets the week of Thanksgiving. Our goal for this blanket drive is to raise $500. Every dollar donated will go towards the greater cause of providing these residents with a warm blanket to keep them warm in both the elements (being transported by ambulance) and inside of the dialysis clinic.
