Our small group of motivated citizens from New Haven has been working with trusted friends in China and the USA to source FDA certified masks directly from the manufacturer. With the outbreak of COVID-19 in America, organizations everywhere are running out of personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical personnel and volunteers in the frontline treating COVID-19 patients. The situation in our area is dire. Healthcare workers, first responders, traveling nurses, and elder care staff are already falling. Without an adequate supply of PPE, most notably masks, their lives are in jeopardy. So are the lives of their families, their coworkers, and their uninfected patients.
We are taking action to get them masks. To date, we have…
· Collected over $20,000 in donations and still growing (Thank you!!)
· Purchased and delivered 860 critically needed masks to Norwalk Hospital (4/10/20)
· Ordered the first shipment of 20,000 FDA Surgical masks & 2,000 N95 FDA masks from a reputable factory in China (4/15/20). The incoming shipment of masks will be shared with the 5 hospitals in the Yale New Haven Health Services System (YNHHS) and with other hospital/ eldercare/field operations in southern CT with urgent needs.

{ Risks inherent to this process: As you may have heard, some PPE imports have been subpar; made as counterfeits or made too quickly to meet certification standards. We have done all the due diligence we possibly can to ensure these masks are indeed manufactured to the full FDA specifications claimed. Cornell Weill Hospital in NYC received a large order from the same source in the last few weeks and found, in pre-testing, that the majority of the masks were up to standards. YNHMS will also pretest the masks upon arrival.
Separately, there have been reports of FEMA confiscating mask shipments. YNHHS Corporate Supply reports no such loss on any of their orders. The confiscated shipments were huge by comparison; we believe our order is small enough to get through. }
