Hello, this fundraiser is in the name of Baby Elliana.
Imelda and Adalberto gave birth to their baby girl named Elliana on March 20, 2022, from the get-go the family knew they would face some battles since she was born at only 23-weeks. Elliana has had to face a lot of challenges since her birth. On April 20th she had PDA Heart surgery. The surgery was deemed necessary to extend her viability and comfort level. At one point there was so much fluid in her lungs that the doctors had to operate the next day. Her oxygen levels were so high that a ventilator has been attached to her little body. Doctors then did their best including administering steroids to help clear her lungs during a 10-day time-lapse. She has had 8 blood transfusions and 5 platelet transfusions at Dignity California hospital. Then on 5/23/2022 baby Elliana was transferred from Dignity California hospital to CHLA because she may now need to get eye surgery. Within those first 24 hours of hospital transfer it was deemed necessary to postpone examinations of the eyes or anything to do with it because nurses detected something very concerning with Elliana. After getting to Children’s Hospital of Los Angles we soon had to sign forms for her to get surgery for Necrotizing Enterocolitis. This procedure consisted in opening her tiny little body and checking for any holes in her intestines. On 05/24/2022 doctors found infected areas in her colon and some in the small intestine after which they determined they must cut off the infected areas. Surgeons said they would have to leave her tummy open for 48hrs because they had concerns for other areas in the intestines and they would not be able to know if any further damage was done before that time. Thursday came and surgeons said they had no choice but to cut and get rid of more intestines. The results of this are that now baby Elliana is left with 40 percent of her small intestine. She now has what we call a short gut, Eliana will need a TPN Machine to feed and receive nutrition she would otherwise receive through normal food. The timeline on when baby Elliana will have to be hooked to this machine is still uncertain as the results of the treatment vary. We know we will have to dedicate time and learn new information. There are many challenges, but we are ready to learn and help Elliana with her journey. In like 2 months we may see her colostomy bag being removed and doctors will attempt to connect her intestines. Now we got word that most likely on 06/08/2022 she will have to get eye surgery to correct how her eyes sight as her eye vessels are growing abnormally. The hope of this surgery is that it will help realign the eyes. Our battles are not over.
On top of this, the young family has medical expenses to cover from the birth of baby Elliana. Being a very young family with a single source of income it’s hard to think of all the bills that are piling up like their mortgage, utility bills, medical bills, and everyday expenses from being in the hospital every day. Medi-cal to cover the hospital bills has been very unhelpful. Because of the very real possibility that baby Elliana will need to be on TPN, the family will also have to investigate long-term care methods which can include making sure baby Elliana is furnished will all the necessities she may need as she continues to grow.
We truly appreciate any help anyone can offer even if it is positive thoughts sent over in baby Elliana’s name.
Thank you.
