Hi. I'm Denelle.
I am a Lansing resident and have worked for the local library for close to 15 years. If you live in Lansing and use the library, you have probably seen me there, checking books out to little ones, or out on the bookmobile. And sometimes at a zoo event or school outreach program. Let me tell you about this adventure I am embarking on.
I have been wanting to go on an Earthwatch expedition for 20 years but have never been able to afford it.
Earthwatch Institute has teams of scientists all over the world researching climate changes and how they effect animals, plant life and eco systems - from chimpanzees to monarch butterflies. A lay person like you or me can work with these scientists out in the field, discovering vital pieces of information that can help species survive and thrive in a rapidly changing world. But these trips can cost thousands of dollars for the volunteer who is going.
I am lucky to have gotten two spaces on a group working with sea turtles, thanks to some late cancellations on the team. This is a MAJOR deal for me and a goal that has been decades in the making. Now my sister and I have to come up with air fare, snorkeling supplies (provided by Dive & Glide - thank you!!), and travel and transport fees. Our trip is in September and we have a lot to do before then. With your help, we can discover the safest habitats for these beautiful and threatened species.
