Elena Conte joined the Pratt Center for Community Development 12 years ago as our Organizer for Public Policy campaigns. She quickly became an integral part of the Pratt Center, rising first to become Senior Organizer for Planning and Policy, earning her degree in City and Regional Planning at Pratt, and then moving on to her current role as Director of Policy.
Elena has been trusty steward and strategic lead on multiple projects during her tenure, including our support for community based coalitions grappling with rezonings, our noted advocacy for transportation equity through Bus Rapid Transit, and the campaign to provide safe, affordable housing in immigrant communities by converting basement apartments (now in its pilot phase in East New York).
To celebrate the occasion of her 40th birthday, Elena is giving back to Pratt Center and asking you, her friends, colleagues and supporters, to do the same. Please consider donating $40 (or a multiple thereof) to her yearlong fundraising campaign, $40 for Elena’s 40th. The proceeds for this fundraiser will go towards supporting some of Pratt Center’s most vital, but under-resourced, programming.
Pratt Center works in deep partnership with community development corporations, grassroots groups, local coalitions, and other community-based organizations in low income communities of color. We develop, co-convene, and facilitate planning workshops with diverse groups of local stakeholders to identify communities' needs and aspirations for open space, affordable housing, commercial corridors, zoning, infrastructure, public health, and environmental sustainability. We then work with our community partners to translate these findings into community plans. And we stick with them to support the realization of these dreams for a more equitable city.
General support empowers Pratt to respond nimbly to evolving situations in an unpredictable political climate. And it also supports our policy work, which, in partnership, is designed to tackle structural racism and anti-democratic issues in planning.
