Hi there, my name is Katy Driver, and I am the founder of 4 Legs & Wheels Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to offering hope and second chances to both animals and people. In 2007, a mustering accident left me in a wheelchair, and I was informed that I would most likely never walk or ride again. Since then, I’ve faced more challenges — including a traumatic brain injury and other serious injuries and ongoing health complications. Despite this, I persevered and found a different way to pursue my passions from my wheelchair.
Since 2020, I have rescued over 130 animals, mainly miniature horses and ponies with a few donkeys, mules, goats, camels, dogs and pigs joining the herd as well. Many of these animals arrive neglected, unwanted, or abused, while others are surrendered due to their owners' unforeseen circumstances. Upon entering our care, they receive necessary veterinary attention, training, and rehabilitation. Some are rehomed into loving families, while others join my show team, providing individuals, especially those with disabilities, the opportunity to compete and experience the joy of the equestrian world. A number of animals with special needs remain with me for life, receiving ongoing care, and some participate in events, visit schools and hospitals, and educate the public about animal welfare.
Currently, all transportation is conducted using an open-top stock trailer, which is unsafe for the animals during inclement weather, thereby restricting travel and making long rescue trips challenging. To address this, EuroFloat designed a purpose-built, wheelchair-accessible float capable of safely transporting up to seven mini horses, with integrated living space for myself and my support worker during travels. This new float will significantly enhance our capacity to reach more rescues, travel safely, and bring our animals to communities, nursing homes, schools, and shows across Queensland and NSW. The float is built and awaiting full payment at EuroFloat's warehouse. Your donation will directly contribute to securing this essential float, enabling more animals to be rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed, and allowing more people to experience the healing and hope these animals provide.
