My name is Ali, and I'm trying to save my parents' home.

When my grandma passed away, she left her home to my mom. The house, while in a beautiful location, came with a lot of issues. General maintenance aside, the house needed and needs a lot of expensive project repairs: a new roof, new deck (which is the only way to access the doors), new insulation... you get the idea. The house has been under the care of renters since my grandma's death so my parents didn't have to sell it. While necessary, that decision has left more problems than before.

Unfortunately, the costs of the home are too great for my parents to keep up with. I am currently covering the costs of my family home, as well as supplementing my parents as their social security is next to nothing. I can't afford to cover the necessary safety repairs and also cover the costs of property taxes and general maintenance. They need to sell the home, unless I can come up with this money. While selling might put them in a better financial position now, it does not account for where they will live when they stop living with me and my family, which they currently are. I love them, but they need their own home again.

The other component is this home is very rural, so any work done on it is higher than average because of the cost of getting materials there.

I'm asking for $75,000. This is a massive amount of money. What the money would be used for:
  • Paying back taxes ~$10k
  • Paying off their debt from the recent work they did on the house ~$25k
  • Replacing the deck ~$10k
  • Replacing the roof ~$8k
  • Septic tank repairs ~$12k-ish
  • Replace/repair broken/weak floor joists ~$6k

My hope is that with the repairs and debt under control, plus me adding responsibilities to my role at work, I can get the finances to a place where they can go down to one renter in the house and they can move in. Otherwise, the house is going on the market.

This is my last-ditch effort. I hate asking for help, and this process terrifies me.

Thank you for your time in reading this, and thank you for your energy and desire to help those who need it.
