Help save our little girl, Gabrielle
Donation protected
My twin nieces, Avrielle & Gabrielle, were born premature on November 15, 2019, six weeks earlier than expected. As you can imagine, they were very fragile and had to spend almost 2 weeks in NICU. But they were little angel warriors! They were sent home earlier than expected and I was lucky to meet them and spend time when I was visiting the Philippines last month. They looked healthy and thriving, we were confident that they were going to make it.
The twins brought our family together, most importantly, rekindled my relationship with their mother, Astrud, who is my youngest sister. My mom would tell me almost everyday since the twins were born that they looked like me when I was a baby, specially Avrielle, the little girl in pink!
On January 8th, I received a message from my mom that Avrielle is gone. After spending 2-3 hours in the ER, she died of sepsis due to an undiagnosed infection. That evening, her twin sister started showing the same symptoms, and was rushed to the hospital. She is currently stable but will be spending more time there to ensure she is fully treated.
Last year was very challenging for me with so many lessons learned. My biggest takeaway - FAMILY is everything. I promised myself I will be a better mother, daughter, sister, and friend. The twins have made a big impact in my life in such a short time, in so many ways that I can't even put into words.
My heart is broken into so many pieces, I can't even begin to imagine how it is for my sister who lost her little angel and is still fighting to save Gabrielle. I'm sitting here feeling helpless and trying to find every way possible to help the family.
My sister does not have healthcare and had to pay everything on own. She has 3 other children. She hasn't gone back to work since the twins were born. They are not done paying off the medical bills from November. We had to pay $1,000 for each day that they were in incubators. To put into perspective, $1,000 in the Philippines is 50,000 pesos. The average annual wage in the Philippines is $8,000. Now, she has new bills from the recent ER visit with Avrielle and still racking up hospital bills to ensure Gabrielle is safe. We are lucky to have a supportive family as each one has been helping lighten the burden for my sister in every way possible. As I sit here, I realize that I have a big network of amazing people that might be willing to help. Please help me raise money to save Gabrielle and help my sister and her family get back on their feet. Every little bit helps, and we are forever grateful. Thank you.
