I Remember Forgetting is a student graduation short film about grief, memory, and the stories we tell ourselves to survive loss.

The film follows Wayne, a widower suffering from trauma-induced amnesia, as he attends psychiatric sessions in an attempt to remember his wife’s final moments. As his memories begin to resurface, they fracture and overlap — blending his abusive childhood with the death of his wife — forcing him to confront a truth he has buried deep within himself.

At its core, I Remember Forgetting explores how unresolved trauma reshapes memory, how guilt manifests as self-protection, and how forgetting can sometimes feel safer than remembering. It’s a quiet, character-driven story set largely within intimate spaces, relying on performance, atmosphere, and emotional realism rather than spectacle.

We are film students creating this project as our final graduation film, driven by a shared interest in psychological storytelling and honest portrayals of grief and mental health. This film is deeply personal to us, and we aim to treat its subject matter with care, nuance, and respect.
