I am Wisam Daoud, a mother striving to support my family of seven—a daughter and four sons.
Aya, at 20, is on the cusp of graduating from university with a degree in Physiotherapy, while Maysara, aged 19, is advancing in his studies, specializing in programming and databases, with only a year and a half to go. Mohammed, 17, had hopes of completing high school this year, Ahmed is navigating through eighth grade, and little Adam is in the third grade.
Our lives have been shattered twice by the relentless actions of the Israeli occupation, leaving us with nothing but despair. First, during the 2021 war, we lost our home in Gaza, and despite receiving meagre compensation, we rebuilt our lives from scratch in a different location, endeavouring to make ends meet by renting out parts of our home.
Just as we were getting back on our feet, the October 7 war struck, plunging us into a new abyss of suffering. Our home, our livelihood, and our cherished memories were all obliterated in an instant. Now we live in tents amidst the biting cold and gnawing hunger, with no one to turn to for help.
I implore the global community to extend their support and aid to my family, enabling us to escape this cycle of devastation. We long to fulfil our dreams, to find safety and security elsewhere, and to salvage what remains of our shattered lives. Every day feels like a hundred deaths as we wake up to the echoes of bombings, shelling, and destruction, bearing witness to the loss of countless lives.
Please, save us from this relentless nightmare. Save my family, so they can continue their pursuit of dreams that have been cruelly interrupted by the horrors of war.
