Service Trip to Sri Lanka

For my senior year of high school I plan on traveling to Sri Lanka in March for 3 weeks with  23 other students from my school! The focal point of this travel will be hands-on service projects through youth sport and education within communities in need, as well as sea turtle and elephant conservation. Daily local guides are active members of the Sri Lanka surf scene, so in between intensive service, I will “dive” into the beach, marine life, and jungle culture of Sri Lanka through a three-day surf adventure and ocean activity excursions, such as diving, snorkeling and stand-up paddleboarding. In addition, marine life encounters with whales and dolphins; rainforest adventure activities, such as zip-lining; and safari viewing of sloth bears and leopards while participating in conservation exercises that will round out the experience! This Sri Lanka exploration will be an opportunity to connect not only with the people and animals of Sri Lanka but also with the spirit of Sri Lanka through yoga, meditation, and temple explorations. The rich historic landscape and culture of the island of Sri Lanka will be explored via vintage tea train rides, cooking classes with local chefs, and sunset temple pilgrimages, utilizing daily mindfulness as a guide.
