Hi! Thanks for checking out this story!
This Go-Fund-Me is for my 64 y/o disabled dad, Rob. I've never done one of these before and if you know my dad, he would never ask for help so anything I raise here will be a total surprise to him.
In the early morning hours of December 29th somebody stole my dads car from the front of his house. A week later the car was recovered but not in any condition to take home, leaving my dad without a car. In addition to everything else going on in the world, Rob has had it pretty rough the last few years. He spent several painful years with an undiagnosed medical condition that has slowly stolen mobility and comfort from his life. Numbness in his hands and feet eventually left him with the loss of 2 fingers and then the loss of his leg last November, leaving him wheelchair bound most of the time.
So the person who stole my dad's outdated 1996 Camry stole it with handicap plates and plaque, and out front of a home with a wheelchair ramp! To make it worse all his fishing gear was in the trunk.
My parents are saving for a new car but are not in the position to replace it any time soon. They both have limited income and disabilities. I recently sold a valuable toy from my childhood and have already put away $600 to surprise my dad with and would love to raise more! Ideally I would like to help him get in a newer used car where he can easily fit his wheelchair.
If you've ever met my dad then you probably love him! For years he was the one who ventured to all my jewelry shows to help me.
He's a mellow dude and he loves to be outside! It has been hard for me to witness his body betraying him over the years and it makes me sad to think of him stuck at home without a car, even more than he is already trapped at home due to limited mobility and pain.
One of his favorite things to do is go to Spring Lake and Howard Park and go fishing and hang out with his friends. I feel like this is what keeps my dad going and still brings him joy in his life. I don't want something like this to make him give up when it feels like life is kicking him.
If you read this far then I humbly thank you for considering a donation! Any ammount will be put to good use and so greatly appreciated!
And if you have any leads on a reliable used car that information would be appreciated too! It just needs to be an automatic ♡
