In the catastrophic flooding event that hit Lismore on 28th Feb, brother and sister, Merlin and Angelica, lost their home; only 3 months after tragically losing their mother, Penny, to cancer.
As they were situated in the CBD, within an hour of floodwaters reaching their bottom step, they were standing in knee-high water inside the upper level of their house. They were incredibly fortunate to have been rescued in their neighbour’s boat only a minute before needing to swim out into the river that had consumed their street.
As Penny had been sharing the house with them while receiving palliative care, all her remaining possessions were inside and have now ultimately been destroyed. In 2018, Angelica also sadly lost her dad, Atilla. His remaining possessions had also been inside their home. Losing so many memories and sentimental items of her parents while trying to process the recent passing of their mum has been unbearably painful for the family. Additionally, most of their personal belongings have now been irreparably damaged and will need to be replaced.
Angelica and Merlin are some of the greatest people I know. They are incredibly kind, caring, compassionate and genuine people who have experienced unfathomable amounts of loss. Financial hardship is an additional burden they should not be carrying at this time. Any assistance you can provide to help rebuild their lives and find a new home would be greatly appreciated.
