Help Ed and Jo Rebuild After Helene's Devastation

I am Nikki Riley, and I am from Hendersonville, NC. My parents, Ed and Jo Hickson, have called Fletcher, NC, and Riverstone home for the past several years. I have had many ask me what they can do to help us after Helene and the destruction she brought not only to WNC but to my parents' home. As many people know, Mike and I evacuated my parents from their home the Thursday night before Helene hit here in WNC as we saw floodwaters rising and roads closing all around my parents' neighborhood. My parents left their house with 3 small bags and their dog, Rusty. We brought them into the mountains and to higher ground. We never expected what would come in the following days. We spent the first few days trapped on that mountain due to landslides, washed-out roads, and downed trees around my neighborhood. They found out three days after the storm hit that they lost nearly everything in their home with the floods Helene brought to WNC.

They are a part of a great neighborhood that has pulled together and helped them tremendously while we were unable to reach the house. Now, as they begin to rebuild their home, costs are quickly mounting. They spent their lives saving for retirement, and the damage Helene left behind will cut into that savings greatly as insurance will not be covering any of the costs. They have to replace drywall, insulation, flooring, bathrooms, a car, as well as furniture.

Anything donated will go straight to my parents to help in the cost of rebuilding their home. We have been incredibly grateful for everyone that has reached out to us during this time to offer support and love!

My parents have a long road ahead of them, but they will rebuild and be back stronger than ever!
