Let me introduce you to the Lee's. Chris and Amanda have been married for more than 8 years and have chosen to grow their family via adoption through DCS. They have successfully adopted a teenage son, and a daughter they brought home at the age of 2.5.
Three days after they brought home their daughter, they brought home a little boy who was not quite three years old. For six and half years, since June of 2014, Chris and Amanda have been advocating this boy whom they lovingly refer to as their son. The Lee's petitioned to adopt their son about 4 years ago and the adoption was granted. Five days after their adoption celebration, their attorney contacted them indicating the adoption would be voided due to a DCS mistake. Their son has never left their custody over the last six and a half years, and they've never stopped fighting to give him the stability he deserves.
Reunification efforts in 2017, lead their son to exhibit behaviors including developing a blinking tick, the car becoming such a huge trigger he had to be transported by himself because he would kick and scream, questioning if sport activities were really a reunification attempt, swallowing coins, urinating in sinks and trash cans, stealing other kids lunch at school, and regressing to baby talk. Their son asked several times during this period to speak to the judge to tell them he did not want to leave his family. Unfortunately, his requests were not granted.
The most recent update with the case, is from the appellate court. The court overturned termination for the second time. Yes, the Lees are in despair, but this isn't about them it's about their son.
Their son, who without intervention outside of the DCS system will lose everything - his friends, school, lifestyle, home, parents, siblings, and pets.
Since the adoption was voided, the Lee's have spent more than 15K on attorney fees.
Their new attorney is one of the best litigators in the nation. They were referred to this attorney by one of the most well respected adoption attorneys in the Midwest. They've been told by many individuals, with decades of experience in child welfare, that their case is the "most screwed up" case they've ever seen. Their attorney only takes cases he can win, which gives the Lee's great hope, however this new attorney said to expect a minimum of another 30K in legal fees.
The next step for Chris and Amanda is to pull money out of their home equity.
This little boy and this family has been through so much. Please consider donating to assist in the effort to keep this family unit together.
30k is a huge amount of money, however if each individual on Chris and Amanda's Facebook friends list donated $25, it would add up to the 30k. This goal is achievable. Please share to gain more exposure.
