In December 2012, my dear friend Jeri's world came crashing in. During a phone call with her daughter, Jeri was told the horrifying news that the man who was Jeri's husband, and father to her two children, had sexually abused their daughter and physically abused their son, for years. Reeling, Jeri divorced the man and set about trying to help her children heal.
Two years later, during her father's sentencing, Jeri's bright, beautiful, brave daughter, Amanda, faced her father in court and forgave him for the years of abuse.
That man is now sitting in prison, leaving Jeri and her children to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and move on. And move on they have. They truly became the three musketeers, emotionally and financially supporting each other as best they could.
While Jeri and her son worked full-time, Amanda finished her studies, earning a BS from Loyola. She is now in graduate school in California, putting as much physical distance as she could between her and her abuser.
Needless to say, the distance is heartbreaking for Jeri and her kids.
Jeri and her son are desperate to see Amanda, whom they haven't seen since August, but do not have the financial means to make it happen.
Jeri works two full-time jobs, just to make ends meet. Extras, like a trip to California to see her daughter, are out of the question. Here's a breakdown of the cost that it would take for Jeri and her son to get to see Amanda during Jeri's break.
Plane tickets are approx $700
Hotel near USC is approx $1,400
Bus passes are $50
Food would be about $700
Disneyland tickets for $372. The total need is $3,222.
Why am I asking you for this? Because the 20 years that I've known and loved Jeri, she's ALWAYS the one GIVING. It's time for her to receive.
I am praying that you might find it in your heart to help. In absolutely any way you can.
With so much love,
Cathy
