Help Joe recover from brain surgery.

My name is Maxine Sumpter and I'm truly grateful you are taking a moment to read this story about my younger son, Joseph (Joe) Sumpter.

Joe has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus as a result of an inoperable tumor deep inside his brain. He has required 2 surgeries to treat it and has been in ICU in San Antonio for a week.

He has been experiencing blackouts, severe headaches, and seizures during which he didn’t recognize his surroundings or know how to get home. He’s also had some behavioral changes, as well as nausea, seeing visions, etc.

This year has been an incredibly challenging one for many other reasons and this health issue only serves to make it more so.

The surgeon successfully was able to place a drain in Joe's skull to relieve the pressure and drained 1300 CCs of fluid from his brain, but it will be a long road to recovery.

For at least 6 weeks, he will not be able to do anything, including work, drive, or take care of his children on the weeks he has them. He does not have any disability insurance or paid time off from his employer, so this time will also result in a financial burden for him and his children.
