You Get By With a Little Help From Your Friends, THANK YOU

Hey friends, music lovers, and generous souls in our wide community net. We’re raising funds for Jamie aka Redman/Red/Uncle Red McCormick—our resident melomaniac, vinyl junkie, and the only person who can really make a case for smoooove jazz on a Sunday morning.

The Problem: Silence is NOT Golden

After decades of warehouse & manufacturing work, (think: loud machinery, constant noise, and some big tune playlists), smidge of genetics, and a wee dab of brain cancer, Jamie’s eardrums & ossicles have taken a serious hit. His hearing is now at the bona fide disability level, and unfortunately, hearing aids aren’t covered by OHIP and government subsidies only cover a portion of the cost.

If you’re wondering why it’s so important, consider that at age 50, Red has a lot of life to live! Studies have shown there are negative consequences for untreated hearing loss, especially for those that develop a significant deficit in the first half of life (under 65 yrs) . Not to mention hearing loss can be cause for discrimination in the workplace & in a job search.

And yes—for those who know him well—the “good ear” has finally joined the Dark Side, after a recent winter ear infection left acute & permanent damage and a significant ‘drop’ in his overall hearing.

He’s always there for his friends, and his friends are his family - be it making you a mix cd, sending a random pic of your fav spot together, or never forgetting a birthday greeting, or your kid’s name - that’s him. He’s the guy!

He’s faced down multiple life-altering challenges (remember back in the ‘00’s when he had fkin BRAIN CANCER?) with a combo of stubborn tenacity & graceful acceptance that legends are made of.

He brings the music, the loyalty, and the odd salty rant to every friendship —and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Ask

We’re raising funds to get Jamie the hearing aids he needs & deserves, so he can get back to adding to his soundtrack.
