Hi everyone, we are raising money to give to the most incredible young lady!!
here is Sophia’s story ….
Sophia's Story.
Sophia was aged 10 when she got diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia back in February 2022.
It came from nowhere & our lives & our world literally crumbled.
We were then advised Sophia was classed as high risk due to a genetic mutation called Philadelphia Chromosome - which makes the cancer more difficult to treat.
Sophia endured a year of gruesome chemotherapy & radiation. During this time she also caught COVID & then sepsis & was on a ventilator in Intensive Care for 5 days.
In March 2023, Sophia had a bone marrow transplant & whilst this also wasn't an easy journey by any means, she got through it.
Unfortunately during her time in intensive care, Sophia was left unable to walk or put any weight through her left foot.
However, we made it through & managed almost 2 years being in remission. Sophia made it back to school part time (using her walker & wheelchair) but despite this, she got on with it & we all felt so grateful for the normality of being a family again & doing the "normal" things together.
On 10th January 2025 after Sophia seemingly having flu like symptoms, we were told the unimaginable again. The leukaemia was back.
Once again, our world crumbled.
We are now back at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital living the nightmare all over again.
Sophia has started chemotherapy again & despite hitting rock bottom, she's still strong & showing her determination as she always did. (Usually by trying to argue & make deals with the Drs over medication & home leave!!)
We are now faced with another long & hard battle & hope to start CAR T Cell Therapy in March.
This has to be our chance & where there is a chance, there is HOPE!
Sophia has already been through so much & it literally breaks our hearts to have to watch her go through all of this again.
But.. we are also determined to do whatever it takes to get her through. One day at a time. We remain strong & positive.
We've got this.
Thank you for reading Sophia's story & for everyone that has supported us as a family so far! We are truly grateful & blessed to have you all.
Let's keep the positivity going xx ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
myself, Jayne Meaney and her son David will be running to help Sophia and her family … in April Jayne and David and myself will be running our first full marathons…. In May the 3 of us will be running the race for life and the Manchester half marathon.
our training and preparations and the runs themselves will all be done in honour of this incredibly brave and courageous young lady.
Shane, Christine Sophia and Connor would like to thank everyone for their support during what has become the most difficult time in their lives.
The money raised will go directly to Sophia who will choose how the money is used.
