Save the unique Monaro Landscape

Real Monaro is a community group aimed at fighting the proposed Coonerang Windfarm project in the NSW Monaro region. We are not against renewable energy, rather the location of this development and the enormous visual impact it will have on our Monaro community and those who visit our region.

The project is proposing 25 x 266m wind turbines adjacent to the culturally significant area known as The Brothers (or Gugang) named after an Ngarigo legend. The proposal is located on both sides of the Monaro hwy between Cooma and Nimmitabel- a designated scenic corridor and unique drive. It is in close proximity to these townships and will be seen from 30+ km away.

The turbines will become the overriding feature of the Monaro plain, towering over The Brothers.

We are working to get a scenic overlay over this unique area which requires a scenic assessment to be done.

Your donations will be used to help with the legal fight against this proposed development, and to fund the scenic assessment, to protect this most important and unique landscape.
