Streetfunk, is a multi award winning Streetdance school, founded by JP Omari back in 2007. JP Omari is a multi-award winning Hip Hop dancer, teacher, coach and choreographer who has worked hard and extensively to become THE leading Hip Hop dance figure in Brighton & Hove.

A place we can call home!

For the last number of years, Streetfunk has been hiring dance studios, church halls and community centres in order to carry out our mission of inspiring, motivating and challenging young people (and older!) through Dance. We have been feeling “limited” with our offerings without the possibility of fully spreading our wings to deliver a super exciting timetable which can engage people of all ages. A fantastic opportunity has come up for us and all the people we serve to have a place we can call “home”. In order for this to happen, we kindly ask for your help.

The Studio

Our aim is to provide an exciting, inspiring and safe environment for Streetfunk and Funkfit students as well as for the local community. A place where the young people can express themselves, develop their skills and challenge / push each other to become the best dancer (but above all, the best person) they can be. The studio will offer classes for young people and adults in the Hip Hop dances, dance fitness, Flips and Tricks, Tumbling and more.

We have recently secured a venue in Portslade, in the suburb of Brighton & Hove and we will endeavour to begin work on the building as soon as possible. As you can see from the pictures below, it requires a full refurbishment in order to operate as a fully functioning, high-quality dance studio.

We personally are investing in the project, but unfortunately, renovating a space to become a dance studio comes with high costs, such as specialist floors, audio systems, mirrors, as well as updating the walls and decor.

Streetfunk would not only expand in the offerings of Dance, but it would allow us to run efficiently and provide an improved service from an office and dance studio in one space. Organisationally and professionally, having our own space would enhance the business administration side.

The Community

JP’s work in the community started long before the birth of Streetfunk. JP’s and now Streetfunk’s and FunkFit’s work reaches all members of the community - children, teenagers, young adults, mums, dads and over 50s. With the inclusion of our new pre-school classes, our offerings will reach members of the community aged 0 - 90 years!!

The space will be a hub for all, allowing for inspiration intra-generations and for the bringing together of a huge community (over 1000 people!) which has for too long been separated due to the different venues previously hired across the city and region.

We would be able to further continue our outreach work in primary and secondary schools across East and West Sussex and provide training / coaching and mentoring opportunities for the young people that want to become leaders and inspire the next generation.

1. Expanding our Reach: With a new studio, we can accommodate more students and offer additional dance classes for people of all ages and skill levels. This will allow us to reach even more individuals who may not have had access to quality dance education before.

2. Enhancing Facilities: Our current space lacks the necessary equipment and facilities to support the growth of our students. With your help, we can create a state-of-the-art studio with proper flooring, mirrors, sound systems, gymnastics equipment and comfortable seating areas, providing an optimal environment for learning and creativity.

3. Community Outreach: Streetfunk is committed to giving back to our community. With the new studio, we will be able to extend our outreach programs, offering free or discounted dance classes to underprivileged children and partnering with local schools to promote the importance of physical activity and artistic expression.
