UOW & ICRI Nepal 2024: Classroom Renovations

Help us transform a classroom in Kathmandu and make a positive impact on the early childhood development for the children of Nepal!

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far we have reached our goal in 3 weeks! With high hopes, our team has decided to raise our goal to $5,250 to go towards our renovation project AND to our donation to the International Child Resource Institute (ICRI) who we will be working close with while we are in country.

About our Cause:

We are a group of 16 university students from the University of Wollongong who will be traveling from Wollongong to Nepal in January 2024. We believe in the importance of early childhood development, as it is the foundation to unlocking positive social, intellectual, emotional, and imaginative development and well-being outcomes. With your support, you can help us reach our goal of $4250, which will go towards the resources required to create an environment that fosters creativity, curiosity, the passion for play-based learning AND to donate to the International Child Resource Institute (ICRI)!

Our Mission:

In partnership with the ICRI Nepal, we will be volunteering in a preschool renovation project to help create environments that supports early childhood development. As a team we plan to set up 5 quality play-based learning areas that will incorporate ideas such as art, music, science/maths, and language/culture to encourage the children to engage in learning through play.

We plan to use $2250 of the fundraised money to purchase materials that will be used to setup the classroom, and 5 play-based learning areas. Resources will include furniture, soft toys, rugs/carpet, which will be purchased at local markets in Kathmandu. Any funds remaining will be donated to the International Child Resource Institute – Nepal. Our academic team leader, Dr. Gai Lindsay (UOW Trip Coordinator), will receive and manage the funds to enable our work with ICRI – Nepal.
