Help families paying out of pocket for therapies

I’m Kathryn, mother to my 5 year old, non-verbal level 3 ASD son who has a suspected intellectual impairment and requires intensive therapy & support to progress and thrive.

Recently I shared our struggles about Jaska’s NDIS funding running low, resulting in cutting back much needed therapy, postponing assessments being unable to afford them, desperately needing an AAC and support coordinator. I shared our story, completely lost, overwhelmed, burn out & basically just to vent and share how challenging this journey can be.

Never could I have imagined the amount of support we would receive from our online community. You came together and helped us more than you could possibly imagine, and asking or accepting help is not an easy thing for us to do. But we are eternally grateful. Because of your generosity Jaska can now continue with his daily therapy session, we have been able to reschedule his assessment meeting for next week, get his iPad and a support coordinator to help us push for the best possible outcome in terms of Jaska’s NDIS plan review.

You’ve gone above & beyond for us, and I want to seize this opportunity and try use it to help fellow special needs families who are in the same boat. Whether they’re waiting to get funding or have run out of funding, and are paying out of pocket for therapy. And the families who can’t even afford to pay out of pocket. Before Jaska was approved for NDIS, we were paying out of pocket for every therapy session, we were so lucky to have been in a position at the time where we were financially able to, however I know there would be many families who are not.

So many of you have sent messages insisting you want to help, and we couldn’t be more grateful that you’ve helped our family, but here’s a chance now to help the families to who don’t have the privilege of a platform to receive support the way I did. I want to use Jaska’s story to help kids just like him, and take some stress of the Mumma’s just like me.
