Fundraiser for Derek Howard's Family

Hi, my name is Rachel Jenks and I am fundraising for Derek Howard's beautiful family. Derek passed away suddenly Saturday, November 24, 2023, leaving behind his beloved wife of 29 years and their two daughters, a high school senior and a recent college graduate. In addition to the emotional heartbreak, Derek’s unexpected passing has placed a significant financial hardship on his family.

Derek has dedicated his entire legal career to public service. I worked with him for the past 17 years. Derek was an amazing human being. He always seemed to know exactly what to say, couched in reasonableness, kindness, and respect. He was a true team player, willing to listen to any situation, share insights and encourage critical thinking.

Derek sincerely cared about our clients and was truly committed to advocating for those who are less fortunate. He took the time, energy, and made a personal investment with our most challenging clients – those with serious mental health issues. His work led to many people having shelter and resources to make it to the next day and move forward.

He enjoyed coaching young lawyers, supporting seasoned attorneys, and was a hands-on supervisor, always ready to jump in when needed. Derek was an all-around incredible colleague and friend. He will be missed by all.
