Raising money for my brother&doing a fun triathlon
Donativo protegido
My brother has recently been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia and is currently having weekly blood & platelet transfusions until he is able to start his treatment.
His levels are at severe/critical stage and his body cannot retain his blood or fight infections.
For his treatment, he will have an intense course of chemo and radiotherapy every day for a week, once completed he will then have a cell transplant to attempt to ‘reboot’ his system.
I have been tested to see if I am a tissue match and unfortunately I am not a full match. (In siblings there is only a 25% chance of being a full match).
He is 24 years old and has been picked & prodded for 2 months and about to endure horrible life saving treatment.
They are now searching on the worldwide donor database. We have limited time to find a match so praying that there is someone out there who is and will donate exactly what he needs.
After his transplant, he will have to stay in hospital until his body has accepted his new blood cells and is safe to leave which can take months.
Unfortunately as I’m not a full match and his transplant may have to come from someone who isn’t a relative, his survival rate is much lower.
As I cannot help him with donating, I have decided to enter a ‘fun’ triathlon to raise money for him and for the charity. The money can help go towards a well needed holiday or whatever he needs to help him through this treatment.
I am no swimmer (lessons pending) and don’t like cycling so this won’t be fun for me.
Anything big or small that you can donate will be massively appreciated.
My family has beaten the odds on many occasions and I know my brother will too.
Stay strong not so little brother, the love and support you have around you is massive!!❤️
