Help a Girl Out! Reusable Pads Project
Donation protected
Our Reusable Pads Project is a social enterprise designed to eradicate period poverty and reduce plastic waste!
Hi, my name is Yanique Brandford the founder of Help a Girl Out (HAGO). An anti-poverty organization based in Brampton, Ontario Canada.
We provide period and hygiene care products to women and girls across Canada and internationally, to countries in the Caribbean and Africa.
As a young girl, I experienced period poverty for many years, often due to financial difficulties. I realized that many of my peers were experiencing the same thing... When I discovered that period poverty was a global issue in many countries and the stigma exists in cultures worldwide, I had to do something to change this.
Through education and anti-stigma campaigns, HAGO has been working to eliminate menstrual stigma. We have also supported women and girls by giving out menstrual supplies, like our reusable pads!
This is why we are asking for your help today!
In order to make our organization sustainable, we have developed our project into a Social Enterprise. By supporting our campaign today, you will give us the boost to grow our capacity to support more girls!
HAGO PADS are affordable, comfortable and convenient and end period poverty for up to 7 years!
For low-income families, relieving the financial burden of menstrual supplies could help them afford groceries or other necessities.
The profit made from our social enterprise will allow us to reduce or eliminate the cost of these pads for those who cannot afford them.
We will also be able to provide more educational workshops, hire more sewists to build our local communities, and provide skill development opportunities for youth.
I want to thank you for your continued support so we can continue to 'Help a Girl Out'! Be sure to choose a package and remember to tell a friend!
How do Reusable Pads Benefit the Environment?
Disposable period products can take between 500 - 800 years to decompose.
The average person uses over 240 disposable pads per year. With more than 25% of the world's population of just under 8 billion people of menstruating age, that's at least 10.6 billion pounds of waste from menstrual products per year.
Reusable pads, not only reduce waste in landfills but also ensure that individuals have consistent access to period products for years at a time, eliminating period poverty sustainably.
Incorporating reusables into your routine can help you save hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
It may be daunting at first to make the switch but both your body and the environment will thank you for trying.
