Hi Friends, Families, and Supporters!
Thanks for taking the time to check out my fundraising campaign for my new non-profit, The InfluenceHers Foundation ( and hopefully donating:)
Our mission is to empower women leaders across the globe, particularly women of color from diverse backgrounds, through small grants that amplify their vital work in their communities
And you making a donation today is a pivotal step in helping lay the foundation of raising a bigger fund to support the organization's mission and empower women community leaders around the world!
The Story: Where it All Started
For six years, I've poured my heart into InfluenceHers, a social impact company dedicated to organizing volunteer events and service trips. My journey with InfluenceHers has been an incredible adventure, but I've always yearned to do more – to create lasting change beyond events and short-term projects.
Friendship and A Life-Changing Experience in Kenya
In 2016, my search for purpose led me to Kenya, a journey that profoundly impacted my life. It was there I met Lillian, a pillar of hope and resilience. As a single mother working for a nonprofit with little means, Lillian looked out for me as a sister. Helping me adjust to Kenyan culture, cooking me meals, and ensuring my safety wherever I went.
While there, I also witnessed something deeply moving–Lillian's unwavering commitment to her community. Her support day in and day out of those in her community, her story of overcoming adversity, and her deep communal ties inspired me.
Lillian's Courage: Stepping into Leadership
Lillian's journey culminated in founding "Ubuntu" in 2020. This was not just the launch of a community-based organization; it was a stand against the gender norms in leadership within the NGO sector. Her bold step was a beacon of hope and empowerment, highlighting the untapped potential of women in leadership roles in her community.
Local Heros: Courtney's Initiative
Closer to home, my sister Courtney's initiative in Atlanta is another inspiration. A former Pre-K teacher in Atlanta, Georgia, who started an initiative to empower more underprivileged families with access early access to books and literacy-promoting materials. With a grant similar to what The InfluenceHers aims to provide, she was able to provide over 1000 books to 50 families for one event.
The Stats: A Revealing Picture
Only 15-20% of NGOs in Kenya are led by women, and the figure is barely 12% in the U.S. Such underrepresentation, coupled with the lower funding for women-led initiatives, points to a global trend that limits women's roles and support in leadership. Lillian's story is a powerful counter to this narrative, demonstrating what women can achieve with the right opportunities.
The InfluenceHers Foundation: Championing Women of Color Leaders
Inspired by Lillian and Courtney, I founded The InfluenceHers Foundation to empower women like them across the globe. Our mission is to provide grants to women community leaders, recognizing their potential to enact significant change.
Join Our Cause
For our first-ever fundraiser, we're raising 2,500. Of this, $500 will empower Lillian to register "Ubuntu" as an NGO, opening essential funding channels, and $500 will support Courtney's book drive initiative.
The rest is a foundational step towards our 2024 target of $20,000, which will fund at least four grants for women-led organizations and initiatives in the U.S. and abroad, furthering meaningful change through their initiatives.
Why We Need You
By supporting The InfluenceHers Foundation, your contribution will not only inspire our burgeoning organization but also act as a powerful catalyst for a prolonged, transformative journey. This journey is dedicated to empowering women leaders who are actively creating significant impacts within their communities.
Note: We are in the process of obtaining U.S. tax-exempt status and will keep our donors updated.
