TASSEL Cambodia Service Trip 2016

TASSEL, "Teaching And Sharing Skills To Enrich Lives," is an educational not-for-profit which creates and runs English-teaching schools in rural Cambodia. The devastating Khmer Rouge left the nation with less than 20% of its teachers, giving children little chance for escape from the cycle of poverty. Native speaking volunteers around the world, like ourselves, use video conferencing to teach English pronunciation to our Cambodian classes on a weekly basis. Through early exposure to TASSEL's teachings, young children develop fundamental language skills and advanced speaking abilities which facilitate success in higher education. In addition, TASSEL provides food and medicine to villages, and salaries for local teachers, who are trained to assist the grammatical and written aspects of the language.

With two years of experience as TASSEL teachers, we, Audrey and Alessandra, along with other English-speaking high school students, have been given an opportunity to travel to Cambodia to teach students face-to-face, distribute medicine, and interact with the local members of the TASSEL community. The two of us will be staying an additional three weeks to document the core issues facing rural villages, the ways in which TASSEL can better improve their lives, and to shed light on the underexposed struggles of the area. The information will be spread via the organization's website in progress.

Your gracious donations will go towards the expenses needed for our participation in our service trip to Cambodia, in which we hope to make priceless changes to the lives of the local community and to educate children for a successful future. Such expenses include accommodations, land transportation (excluding airfare), daily sustenance, vitamins and other medicines brought over for the villages, and contributions to the salaries of local teachers. We, the TASSEL community, are extremely thankful for your generous support and hope, with your help, to maximize our abilities to affect change on a greater scale.
