Hi, my name is Amanda and Sarah has been one of my best friends for a very long time! Their little family could really use our help right now.

Sarah and Derek had the sweetest little man born September 7th,2022. His Name is Liam and he has two incredible big sisters name Kaydence (13) and Haylee(7).

Liam was born with a rare condition called Biliary Atresia. There is no known cause and no cure. The only thing that can save Liam’s life is a Liver Transplant.

They have been back and forth to Edmonton for months every 2 weeks. They arrived on Monday March 6th for liver clinic check up where it was confirmed that he had Ascites. They immediately admitted him and began trying to remove the fluid with high risk medication. They were not getting the results they wanted. By this point Liam was throwing up multiple times a day. Including throwing up his NG Tube everyday and having to reinstall it. He was getting a new IV every single day as his veins were collapsing. We knew it was time to act now. Liam was scheduled for an emergency CT Scan. The surgeons then reviewed the results and posted Liam Active Status 2(sick in hospital) on the transplant list. He slept ALL day Saturday and Sunday. They received the news that Derek was a blood type match and he was to drive down to Edmonton and begun the testing. Derek arrived late Sunday night. Liam threw up AGAIN, and threw up his tube again. While Sarah begun cleaning up the mess the phone started ringing at 11 pm. It was the transplant coordinator, to say they have a perfect match for Liam!

Liam went into surgery at 2pm Monday, March 13.

Tuesday he was not getting blood flow to the liver and underwent another surgery.

he is currently intubated for a while so he can rest and recover.

Sarah will be staying in Edmonton for a minimum of 3 months while their little man recovers. Their Home in Grande Prairie is 5 hours away and Derek and the girls will be making multiple trips back and forth. This is going to be a very long recovery for this amazing little family and I’m hoping we can all come together and take some of the burdens away.
