New Van for Jesus

My name is Ysa Garcia and I am the proud mom of Jesus and Danila Garcia. I have lived in Carmel, IN since April of 2017 when I relocated from Venezuela under political asylum to find a better life for my children. My daughter Danila has down’s syndrome and my son Jesus has cerebral palsy, which makes life beautiful but also very challenging.

I have worked since the day I arrived here to create a wonderful life for my children. I have worked at Carmel Clay middle school as an instructional assistant in the special education life skills program. I recently acquired a second job as a medical interpreter to serve families in need around Indianapolis at hospitals such as Riley and Methodist.

This week, after 6 years of waiting, I was finally approved for my green card to become a United States citizen. My immediate plan is to make sure my children are taken off of their emergency Medicaid and on official Medicaid. With this I am hoping to apply for a waiver to help cover their medical expenses. However, this may take plenty of time.

I am the only member of my family in Indiana and care taker for my children. I do everything I can to protect them and provide for them. Recently, my ability to transport Jesus’ and his wheelchair has been severely impacted. Our van that we have now has over 158,000 miles and the ramp is old, rusted, and no longer functioning to transport him. Now let me tell you, Jesus is a busy guy! He works every weekend at our church doing lighting and sound production. He recently began his own business DJing and doing lighting for private events. He is also involved in many other activities like soccer power chair, which he has been unable to go to due to transportation issues.

I am working as hard as I can to save for a new van, but am struggling and would appreciate any help I can get. New and used vans range from 10-60 thousand dollars.

I truly believe God provides for those in need and He has provided for me my entire life. I am praying He will help me find the financial assistance I need to help get a new van for Jesus and continue to do all that I can for them. Anything you can do to help us would be so appreciated.
