The Millinocket School Board in cooperation with the Millinocket Alumni Association recently approved the renaming of the football field at the Stearns Jr. - Sr. High School athletic complex to the Arthur D. Greenlaw Alumni Field in honor of the winningest football coach in school history. The Re-dedication Ceremony will be held Sunday July 2 at 1pm in the Wentworth Gymnasium at Stearns High School with a reception, by donation to the Stearns Athletic Boosters, to be held immediately after in the Jr. High gymnasium in the same complex. The event is open to the public.

Expected to attend are all players, managers, coaches, supporters and families of previous teams, as well as coaches from opposing teams.

Greenlaw, a graduate of Belfast High School in 1966, graduated from Southern Connecticut State College in 1970 where he played football. He landed is first job at Skowhegan High School where he taught, coached football, and served as the Athletic Director from 1972 until 1976. He came to Stearns in 1976 as a teacher and head football coach. The two years prior to Greenlaws tenure at Stearns, the Minutemen won back to back State Championships in 1974 and 1975.

Greenlaw coached the Minutemen from the fall of 1976 until 1990 and then again from 1995 until 1997. Under Greenlaw's direction, the Minutemen won Little Ten Conference titles in 1982, 1984, 1986, 1987 and 1995 and won State Championships in 1982, 1984, 1987, and 1995. 1987 was an undefeated season for the State Class B title and 1995 was another undefeated season for the State Class C title.

The Minutemen also won four straight LTC Championships from 1991 to 1994 and two state Championships in 1991 and 1992 under Head Coach Dave Evans and again in 1998 under Head Coach Tom Bertrand. The last LTC Championship was in 2010 under Head Coach Chris Preble.

Greenlaw was inducted into the Maine Principals Association Hall of Excellence in 2021 and was given the Maine Chapter of the National Football Foundation Award for Contribution to Amateur Football in May 2023. He had a short stint as football coach at Mattanawcook Academy and another short stint as an assistant coach for Husson Football under head coach Gabby Price. After his retirement, he continued to contribute to Stearns football, often helping as a special advisor or an assistant coach mentoring young players and new coaches.

In addition to honoring Coach Greenlaw the event is serving as a celebration of Stearns Football Past and Present.
