Bring Shea Home

My name is Pat, and I'm fundraising for my big brother, Shea Kephart.

To the point, Shea is a 42 year old single father of 3, who is currently stuck on a ventilator, paralyzed from the neck down, in the Ohio State University Hospital, 8 hours away from his family and friends.

Since he was 19 years old, Shea has undergone over 30 major surgeries due to a disease called Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. In short, VHL is characterized by the formation of tumors and cysts in many different parts of the body.

After battling this rare disease for over 22 years, Shea's current state is a result of an inoperable tumor that has grown around his brainstem and spinal cord, progressively shutting down his body's internal functions. Despite his worsening condition, Shea is conscious and able to communicate and enjoy time with his loved ones which, no doubt, bolsters his will to live and improves his waning quality of life immeasurably.

The goal of this fundraiser is to assist Shea and his family to get him transported to a facility closer to home so that he may spend his last days with his children, as well as help with the inevitable costs imposed on an individual and their loved ones post-mortem.

After exhausting his insurance contributions, transportation to a closer facility alone is going to cost, out of pocket, between $11,000-$23,000 depending on if it is by ambulance, or if a lifeflight is required.
