Help a Refugee Family Move Into a Home!
My name is Elina, and I am writing to you today to request your support for a wonderful family. Yuri and Katya, along with their three daughters - Karina (16), Polina (12), and Dasha (7), have recently relocated to the Chicago area from Minsk, Belarus. They have found a home they hope to move into in August, but they are currently facing financial challenges and are struggling to afford it.
The political situation in Belarus has been dire, with people being imprisoned and killed for expressing their political beliefs. Yuri supported an opposition candidate, and when his freedom and life were in danger, the family made a difficult, last-minute decision to flee together. They flew to Mexico and embarked on a treacherous journey across the desert until they reached a frozen reed-covered deep river. Yuri bravely ferried his terrified wife and daughters, one at a time, until they were all safely across. They arrived in the United States with only their passports and a small amount of money.
Currently, the family is seeking legal refugee status, as they can never return to Belarus. I have had the pleasure of getting to know them and can attest to their warm, sharp, and funny personalities, despite their incredibly challenging circumstances. They are positive, resilient and determined.
Prior to their journey, the girls were competitive rhythmic gymnasts and swimmers. Katya was an early childhood teacher, and Yuri worked in trucking. They both value education and want their daughters to be able to attend good schools, finish college and thrive in a free country.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly towards the deposit and rent on their house. Our goal is to raise $7,000 to give this family the chance to build their future in a wonderful home and school district. No amount is too small, and your donation would make a meaningful impact in their lives.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Yuri, Katya, and their daughters. Your kindness and generosity would go a long way in helping them settle here in the US.
