This January, I’m taking on the 31-Mile Dog Walk Challenge to support animals across the country who need rescue, care, and protection. I’m doing this in memory of Maya.

I rescued Maya when she was 7 years old. Giving her a second chance (and what became the best years of her life) filled mine with so much joy and love. Walks were her absolute favorite thing. Every mile I walk during this challenge is for her.

A few months before Maya passed, I was lucky to meet Olive, a rescue pittie with a big personality of her own. Because both Maya and Olive were strong-willed, my boyfriend and I began walking them together to gently work through reactivity and build trust. What started as training became bonding. They found each other through walks.

Over these 31 days, I’ll be walking primarily with Olive, while also highlighting other rescue dogs and sharing what it truly means to give animals a second chance - the patience, the effort, and the incredible reward.
