It’s been a rough few weeks as Salt Lake has readjusted to COVID-19. We at 3 Cups have been adjusting and trying to keep our doors open even as we have been reduced to curb side pick up as our only option for continuing to serve our community. This has been extremely stressful for us as a businesses and we know we are not alone as many of our small business owner friends are experiencing the same. One of the big stressors we have is our desire to continue to take care of our employees. We think of them as family and know that often times they are living pay check to pay check. Many don’t have heath insurance, a savings or any other source of income. These employees include the amazing artisans that run our weekly workshops.
To make matters worse, yesterday we had a 5.7 earthquake that caused everyone’s anxiety to skyrocket. Several employees no longer feel safe working and have chosen to self quarantine. Others are scared but feel they have no choice and have to keep working in order to pay bills and buy food.
Without money coming in to our business, we are not able to take care of our employees the way we would like. We would love nothing more than to know if we are forced to close our doors completely we could still pay our employees. What a huge relief that would be to us as a business.
We are reaching out to our community and the bigger community of Utah in hopes of getting the support we need to take care of these great employees.
