To know Margaretha, was to love her. A teacher, a coach, a friend, a sister, a wife and a mother -- she touched the lives of so, so many people. It's truly hard to put into words just how big an impact she made in her 38 years.
On August 6th, 2019 Gretta was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She defied the odds, fighting the most unbelievable fight and teaching us all to "Dream Crazy."
Over the last six years, she refused to be defined by her cancer diagnosis. Dreaming crazy, she kept teaching and coaching and inspiring those around her until the very end. On August 6th, 2021 she married the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, Pat Farrell. Together she and Pat brought their daughter Rosie home in July of 2022. Gretta was born to be a mom and though she didn't get nearly enough time with Rosie (pictured above with Mom and Dad) you can see from Rosie's infectious smile and big personality, that Gretta's spunky spirit lives on in her precious daughter.
As friends and family begin to imagine a world without Gretta in it, many of us have been asking the question ... what can we do? While the Farrell & Ehret family determines how they plan to honor Gretta's legacy in the future, our first and foremost focus is to support Pat and Rosie, the loves of Grettas life. As they begin to find their new normal, returning to school and work while trying to get their feet back under them, we want to help. Our hope is that with the support of this community who loves Gretta so much, we can help to lighten their load, to make sure that they have the freedom, space and time to begin to navigate this new world, to focus on healing, to explore what brings them joy, and to utilize any tools necessary that help them take care of themselves and each other.
We will never stop dreaming crazy for our Gretta and right now that means taking care of her people as best we can.
