Hello, fellow people around the world.

Today we come to you in the name of a good cause that will help us continue with our work towards raising awareness about preventing HIV, as well as eradicating stigmas that lead to discrimination against those who live with it.

We are an NGO of young students from Mérida, Venezuela who are focused on educating people about topics such as human rights, as well as reproductive and sexual health. By offering information about these issues, we provide people with tools that allow them to explore their sexuality responsibly, while allowing them to get answers to their questions in a safe and inclusive environment, without feeling the weight of prejudices or stigmas. Since our goal is to raise awareness and our members are young people, it is appropriate that our organization is named “Jóvenes Creadores de Conciencia.”
Unfortunately, our work has been hindered by the economic crisis Venezuela is currently undergoing. Little or no help at all is given to NGOs by the Venezuelan government, public entities are reluctant to get involved in social issues due to economic or ideological causes, and international cooperation and financial help do not seem to easily reach our country due to a strict foreign currency exchange and ever-rising prices of goods and services. Additionally, sponsors like universities and private companies have reduced their economic support for social causes.

Our country is also suffering a public health crisis that is particularly dangerous to people with HIV. There are reports of an 80% shortage of medicines throughout the entire country, and this shortage includes antiretroviral drugs. There is also a severe lack of baby formulae for children whose mothers live with HIV, and condoms have become extremely expensive. Furthermore, healthcare centers have been working under appalling conditions in the last years due to poorly-maintained physical structures and lack of medical resources.


All these difficulties have not stopped us from working for our cause. Occasionally, we use money from our own pockets to develop new projects, but additional economic funding is definitely needed. Therefore, our NGO has come up with an idea that would generate money for the organization while providing a platform to our cause: a thematic café that will offer food and beverages, weekly activities regarding human rights and HIV awareness, and constant sources of education about these topics. Some of the features this thematic café would offer are these:

·         Movie forums.

·         Thematic library.

·         Free flyers and condoms.

·         Interactive resources such as educational board games and a wheel of fortune.

·         Demonstrations of the correct use of a condom.

·         Educational workshops and constructive debates.

Moreover, the café will be decorated with paintings, images, posters and works of art that are allusive to human rights.

No form of discrimination will be allowed inside the premises of this café, which guarantees people from different backgrounds to acknowledge and embrace their diversity without fear of being rejected in a safe and comfortable place surrounded by respect.

This café will be a significant source of income for “Jóvenes Creadores de Conciencia”, and its earnings will fund the development of activities such as planning and executing educational events around our city, transportation to these events, printing informative material, and even covering medical expenses of people with HIV in dire need of help.

If you have managed to read this petition until this point, we know you share our interest and concern about HIV and other issues related to this disease. Your support will take us one step closer to make this initiative come true, and that will benefit hundreds of people. Your contribution will allow our group of young people to offer support to a community that is in need of help and guidance regarding HIV.

Hola compañeros de todo el mundo.

Hoy recurrimos a ustedes en pro de una buena causa que busca seguir con nuestra labor en la respuesta al VIH tanto en su prevención como en la reducción de estigmas y discriminación hacia las personas con VIH.

Somos un grupo de jóvenes estudiantes que vivimos en Mérida Venezuela, constituidos como una ONG que trabaja en beneficio de los derechos humanos, de la salud sexual y reproductiva y de la respuesta al VIH, orientando acciones hacia la educación y ofreciendo herramientas que permitan el ejercicio responsable de la sexualidad, desde un ámbito inclusivo, sin prejuicios y sin estigmas, por ello nos llamamos “Jóvenes Creadores de Conciencia”.

Lastimosamente nuestra labor se está viendo cada vez más limitada debido a la crisis estructural que atraviesa actualmente Venezuela, donde los fondos para ONG son escasos y hasta negados. El estado venezolano ha anulado la responsabilidad social de los entes públicos, la cooperación internacional ha estado alejada del país, hay muy pocos fondos públicos para este tipo de actividades, los controles de cambio y de precios en el país frenan el financiamiento internacional y finalmente cooperantes como universidades y empresas privadas disminuyen sus aportes a la respuesta.

Asimismo el país está reportando una serie de deficiencias que afecta la salud de miles de personas con VIH, como la escasez de reactivos, la escasez de ARV, la ausencia de fórmulas lácteas para infantes nacidos de madres con VIH, los altos costos de condones, las instalaciones de salud deterioradas y hasta se reporta un 80% de desabastecimiento de medicamentos en general en todo el territorio nacional.

Seguimos trabajando por esta causa, en ocasiones a honores, pero los recursos financieros son necesarios, por consiguiente, hemos pensado en la creación de un proyecto que permita generar fondos para la organización y que a su vez genere un beneficio social, esa iniciativa consiste en la creación de un “Café temático”, este café además de ofrecer los servicios convencionales de venta de comida, tendrá a disposición del público en general  actividades y servicios constantes  semanales sobre derechos humanos y VIH, entre ellas:

·         Cine foros.

·         Biblioteca de consulta.

·         Condones y volantes gratuitos.

·         Herramientas interactivas como: juegos de mesa didácticos, ruleta de la suerte.

·         Demostraciones sobre uso correcto del condón.

·         Talleres-debates.

Asimismo el café será ambientado con cuadros, imágenes, obras de arte y campañas sobre derechos humanos.

En este café será prohibida totalmente cualquier forma de discriminación, por ende, permitirá a las personas ser ellas mismas sin temor a los prejuicios sociales, creando un ambiente cómodo diseñado hacia el respeto y reconocimiento de la diversidad en todos sus ámbitos.

Dicho café será constituido como un contribuyente especial tributario para la ONG “Jóvenes Creadores de Conciencia”, lo cual hace que sus ganancias sean dedicadas al desarrollo de actividades de la organización, para la impresión de material informativo, e incluso para subsanar algunos gastos de salud urgentes que necesiten las personas con VIH , así como también podrán ser costeados los gastos de movilización y demás aspectos para la correcta ejecución de nuestras actividades educativas en la ciudad.

Si has llegado hasta acá en la lectura, sabemos que estás conciente y sensibilizado con el VIH y sus temas afines, tu aporte nos ayudará a que esta iniciativa deje de ser un sueño y se transforme en una realidad, que redundará en beneficio de cientos de personas.
