Please help provide a newly-arrived refugee family permanent housing so they can find jobs and settle into a new community. The family was recently brought to the United States by a Biden Administration State Department refugee program, but upon arrival, the promised federal funding from the sponsoring resettlement agency has been pulled. They have since been temporarily housed and are isolated in a central Massachusetts town, where no one speaks their language.
We are fundraising for $15k to cover the cost of housing for the first 6-8 months to help the family get on their feet. The plan is for the family to move to permanent housing in Western MA to live near their cousins (also refugees) and other friends that can help provide support.
The parents and their four children are from Eritrea; however, they were housed in a refugee camp in Ethiopia due to horrific violence back home. In the camp, they experienced further violence, food insecurity, and lack of basic necessities. Eritrea has one of the worst human rights records in the world, prompting our Department of State under President Biden to offer them refuge.
This fundraising team has served as a Care Circle of Support for the cousins since they arrived as refugees five years ago. Now we are committed to helping both families, providing medical, educational, and social support as they transition into our community.
Whatever you can give will help. With your financial support, this family will have a safe and stable home and a new start!
Please share widely with people you know. Thank you!
