As many of you may already know, our dear friends, Fiona and Charlie, have been thrown one of life’s toughest challenges. Their beautiful baby boy Oscar James Mays was born on the 1st July 2025. After arriving into this world, their perfect baby boy was diagnosed with a rare heart defect called Hypoplastic left heart syndrome resulting in only his right ventricle working, relying on a remnant duct (PDA) to keep him alive by allowing oxygenated and deoxygenated blood to mix. Oscar was immediately transferred to ICU and has already bravely recovered from major heart surgery at 1 week old.

Fiona and Charlie have always put positive and brave faces on in the face of extremely difficult life challenges. Their strength and resilience is truly inspiring. They have never complained, always putting other people’s concerns as a priority over theirs. Oscar’s future is uncertain, he still currently requires a lot of medical support. We know he is going to need another major heart surgery before he is 6 months old and multiple prolonged hospital stays are inevitable to hopefully give him the best chance to lead a life where he knows how much his family and friends love him.
