Please help bring Paul Doughty home
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Amanda Saia. Many of you who live in the Saint John, NB and surrounding area have likely seen me post about my grandfather before. My grandfather Paul Doughty has been missing since August 18, 2021. He was 76 when he went missing and was last seen buying a blueberry pie at MacKay's blueberry stand in Pennfield, NB. Two weeks later his car was found abandoned in the brush on a logging road nearby. There have been numerous searches done in that area, but sadly they have been unsuccessful.
We have tried to get the RCMP to request the services of a police certified human remains dog, but it is just not going to happen unfortunately. I have also tried to reach out to multiple private canine groups on my own, but have been declined because law enforcement would not request them. I only found one resource willing to assist, a lovely couple who had a dog with human remains detection training. They did come in briefly, which was much appreciated. However, I have always wanted to find a group with multiple HRD canines to cover as much ground as possible.
I FINALLY found a group who is willing to come and do an extensive search for us! They have multiple HRD certified canines, and have success stories to back up their certifications!! This group is coming all the way from Ontario to try to help find him, as well as possibly a group from Alberta! The organization does not like to accept money from the family but I can't not make some kind of donation to them. They work so hard to stay up to date on their training, and it's just amazing what they do and what they are willing to do for my family. Admittedly I am a little uncomfortable asking people for money, but the purpose of this GoFundMe is just to hopefully get a little help donating some funds towards their travel expenses etc.
If you can donate, I would appreciate it so much but I know times are tough for many, so please don't short yourself.. The organization is called Ontario Search & Rescue Canines, they have a Facebook page and a website if you would like to look them up. The search will take multiple days, and the plan is for this to happen as soon as mid to late September.
I hope none of you do, but one day you may need a group like this to help you too. And take it from me, it is not easy to find this resource in New Brunswick. Thank you all so much for reading, and please share this fundraiser!
