Braving the Shave for local hospice and community.
I work in St Richard’s Hospital as a critical care nurse. These past few weeks, the community has been very supportive and has done a lot of fundraising and donations for us. It has been very overwhelming. It’s my time to help the local community. I am supporting 3 charities/ missions.
Two years ago, 2018, our very dear friend, Clare, who was a devoted sister in Theatres in our hospital, very much loved by all, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. That year, she also lost the battle. She was the godmother of my son and to many children we consider as our family here in Chichester. It will be her birthday this coming May 18. She spent her last birthday and her final days in St Wilfrid’s Hospice. Staff are simply amazing and this fundraising will help them continue what they do best in supporting people in palliation and their families. A lot of their fundraising campaigns have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. My little gesture is aimed to help their fabulous staff with very kind hearts to make a big difference to brave souls like our dear friend.
I am also doing this for the Filipino Missions (Alay Kapwa) through Father Conde. We have migrated in UK in 2001. He has supported a lot of Filipino migrants and workers in the UK. He has saved workers from abusive employers, has supported dying Filipinos and their families, given spiritual and emotional support to many.
And through the charity and church, we were also able to donate funds straight to the people who suffered natural calamities and the less fortunate people dying in hunger in the Philippines. With the pandemic now, a lot of people are suffering and every little donation will greatly help both here in UK and the Philippines.
Finally, I am doing this for St Richard’s Catholic Church to add to their community fund. I am a parishioner there. Almost every year, my family and my brother’s family help with fundraising with other Filipinos on our Parish Day by cooking Filipino dishes. All proceeds go to Church to help the community. In this time of pandemic, lots of people lost their jobs. Many families and their children in Chichester and neighbouring communities are suffering in hunger. Every donation you give will make a big difference to this mission of helping our local people in all races and ethnicities.
I am braving the shave on May 18 with the support of my husband and son to celebrate and in remembrance of our beloved friend Clare’s birthday. Thank you for your support.
