I am privileged to be a 14 year resident of Sellersburg, Indiana. I have been married to my husband Chris for 15 years and we have two children ages 13 and 10. I am from a military family of five children, my father having served in the United States Air Force for nearly 30 years. I began my high school career at Borden High School and graduated from Our Lady of Providence High school in 1996. I obtained a B.A. in Psychology from Indiana University Southeast in 2001. I am currently pursuing an Executives Master’s degree in Philanthropic Studies through the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. I spent over 11 years in the banking and finance industry locally before joining the Community Foundation where I serve as the Director of Community Philanthropy for the Foundation.
In the eight years that our children have been attending Silver Creek schools, I have been actively involved both inside and outside of the classroom and I spend many hours volunteering in many capacities throughout the community. I have been an active volunteer through Junior Achievement as a Success Skills Coach at Silver Creek High School since 2004 and also an active volunteer for the Communities in Schools of Clark County 321 Read program at Silver Creek Primary and Silver Creek Elementary Schools since 2012. By nature of the work that I do in my career I am actively engaged in many local and regional educational initiatives including the Southern Indiana Mentoring Partnership Advisory Council and Regional Cradle to Career & Quality of Life Guiding Team. I work regularly with many key community stakeholders and leaders to address all areas of qualify of life in Clark County. I work regularly with the local schools, including teachers, counselors, principals, and administration, and hear and see their successes and challenges. I have spent many hours as a volunteer for the Floyd County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CAS) program through St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities, Youth Count, Building & Development Association Women’s Council for Community Outreach, and One Southern Indiana’s Young Entrepreneur Success (YES) Program. I am also currently in my second six year term on the Indiana University Southeast Board of Advisors appointed by Indiana University President Michael McRobbie and the Board of Trustees.
I am confident that I have the knowledge, skills, passion, and energy to make a difference for the future our children. We are currently faced with many challenges in our school district including aging facilities and capacity issues. It is time to be more proactive in planning for the future to ensure our students are able to graduate with the education and skills necessary to compete in a global marketplace. It’s time to utilize more state of the art technology to make sure all of our schools can offer top notch academic curriculum. Through good governance, policy setting, and leadership, our school board can accomplish all of these things. If elected, I will work diligently to encourage better communication and engagement with community stakeholders to establish stronger trust and better transparency. I will be accessible to the community and ready to listen to your concerns. I truly believe in the value of public education and I am passionate about the role it plays in the lives of our children and the impact it can have in a community. I hope you will consider voting for me on November 8th!
