After successfully carrying out the Toy and Homeless Winter Drive in Honor of the Countless Shaheeds, Chaar Saahibzaadey and Baba Kuldeep Singh Ji last year, we are once again collaborating with the New York Presbyterian Komansky Children’s Hospital for our Second year. More than 750 kits filled with blankets, gloves, socks, toothbrushes, and hygiene products were given out and close to almost $15,000 worth of toys were donated. This drive is funded by the organizers and close family friends but if anyone wants to take out their dasvand (seva from your earnings) and donate, they can feel free to reach out to anyone tagged in this reel for more information and how to participate.
Why did this Seva begin ?
This drive was started with the thought of what better way to honor our Shaheeds, than by giving to those that spend their holidays away from family on the hospital beds, or on the cold streets of NYC. It was the age of the Sahibzaadey to play with toys, but instead they chose to play with death and stood against tyranny, preaching justice while going against oppression. That along with honoring my grandfather, Baba Kuldeep Singh Ji, who did parchaar of Shaheeds along with Seva in various parts of Punjab and NY for the past 36 years. Him being a paragon of love and giving, was ironic, since he passed away on Christmas of 2020, in the midst of the Shaheedia of the Sahibzaadey. He believed in giving to those that receive as a necessity, not as a luxury.
